What do you get when you cross the songwriting integrity of Kasey Chambers, the story- telling capabilities of Kelsea Ballerini and a tinge of Emylou Harris? You get the sweet country sounds of Byron Shire’s Tahlia Matheson. With a knack for compelling storytelling, natural production and that classic country vocal twang, Tahlia’s name is one to keep fresh in your mind!
Tahlia developed her love for songwriting at the ripe age of 14 during a school assessment that pushed her to write her own music. Two years later, she attended the Tamworth Country Music Festival, swapping out the piano for a guitar and solidifying her goal to become an established country artist. Since then she’s travelled the world, including 2 trips to Nashville, Tennessee, with the first including 5 weeks of songwriting across the globe. She also made her mark there with a performance at world renowned venue The Blue Bird Café, a highlight of her music career thus far. Tahlia also attended another songwriting retreat in the UK at the established London Institute of Contemporary Performance. She hasn’t limited her talents to overseas though, solidifying herself as a driving force in local music performing at The National Folk Festival in Canberra, Byron Bay’s Bluesfest, booking a bunch of regular gigs up and down the East coast as well as playing the main stage at the beloved Gympie Muster.
Tahlia released her first EP in 2018 Wait and See. With the title track amassing over 1,000 streams on Spotify, her music is already attracting a humble amount of attention. But that’s not all she has to offer, with a whole new EP in the works. Featuring a slightly grungier approach and a bunch of tracks penned during her time in Nashville, the EP is set to propel Tahlia Matheson to whole new heights!
