“Jill the Ostrich finds full-time employment with perks!”
Aussie Farmyard Larrikins Steal the Show on Australia Day
“ Ostrich Egg Racing debuts at Bearded Dragon”
“Strange Folk, Weird Fun nothing new for Bearded Dragon- Tamborine
Ostrich eggs throw a twist on Australia Day egg and spoon race!
“Laugh, are you kidding, I’ve never laughed so hard” says Monique Gregory (aka Pig Lady) of the trial ostrich egg race in preparation for Australia Day at The Bearded Dragon.
Most true blue aussie punters and visiting friends and relatives worldwide recognise the Bearded Dragon for its Canetoad Racing and “Toadman” (aka Mark Gregory) but now there is a new phenomenon sweeping through Tamborine.
Jill the Ostrich turned to the Bearded Dragon Crew for help last year, after just losing her partner to suicide and her owner to a heart attack, they knew she needed some hardcore counselling. The farmyard larrikins including five miniature pigs (Fat Elvis, Priscilla Queen of Beaudesert, Sir Elton, Little Johnny and Ginger Spice), eleven alpacas, two miniature goats, two deer, Pig Lady & Toadman welcomed her with open arms.
“We all love Jill and she is really warming to full-time employment of producing one egg every two or three days, a mighty contribution for the ostrich egg racing and the rest of the time she eats and keeps all the kids amused. She loves her new job, it comes so naturally!” says Pig Trainer Monique Gregory.
The Bearded Dragon line-up for Australia Day includes Thong Throwing & Lamington Scoffing Competitions, ostrich egg, toad & pig racing, whip-cracking, ironman bloke & sheila competition and a prize for the best aussie costume and the best aussie ute! Be entertained by Cockatoo Paul who is a poet and storyteller playing a combination of instruments simultaneously including guitar, didgeridoo, stomp box and percussion as well as numerous novelty instruments. Perfect entertainment for an audience that likes their music hot, their beer cold and their humour slick and fast.
So those of you who indulge in the weird things that aussies do, should head to the Bearded Dragon to celebrate Australia Day and tuck into some good old-fashioned Aussie Fun & Tucker. Entry is Free and Gates Open 10am. Proceeds of promotions on the day
include childrens charities and rural bush fire brigades.
