You will remember him as the exceptional musician who for many years graced the Byron Shire’s markets and eateries with his sudden bursts of color and his warm spontaneity in his guise as a wandering minstrel.

For many, Raku was the embodiment of all that’s great about Byron – colourful, energetic, exotic and talented. Raku has warmed the hearts of many with his high voltage smile, incorrigible presence and his mesmerising performances.

In recent times his performance has evolved from the streets to pubs and festivals allowing him to display his skilled song craft and energetic vocalising to greater effect.

Besides great vocals his work reveals a diverse range of moods and influences and conveys the social, political and spiritual feelings close to his heart a la Harper, Johnson and Franti. (One of his tunes The Sins of the Son features along-side Paul Kelly and Tex Perkins on the newly released Fatherhood CD). Raku is Soulman, he thrives on audience participation and could whip even a convention of Carmelite nuns into a frenzy.

He performs under the name Soulman with music that draws deeply on his Jamaican roots and the Jazz, Blues, Gospel and Soul idioms

Performing Live at Bearded Dragon Boutique Hotel Tamborine.
