BIO

Andrew Kennedy is a Brisbane singer/songwriter. 2008 saw Kennedy release his sophomore EP Running Stumbling Bumbling Bursting followed by a national solo tour through Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and his home town Brisbane.

Reviews for the record were glowing, and first single Suicide Tuesday was a finalist in the 2008 Qsong songwriting competition.

…six tracks of poetry. His lyrics are outstanding – honest and beautiful
Bianca Martin: Tsunami Magazine

…a musical delight, theres a certain Jeff Buckley-esque sound to it.
Robert Dunstan, Rip It Up Magazine.

Unlike your Murrays and Butlers, [Andrew] can tell his elbow from his funny bone
Jeff Apter, Sydney Morning Herald

Riding on a wave of momentum, Kennedy is currently back in the studio working on a new record due for release early next year. The new record will focus on lyrical storytelling as established in Running Stumbling Bumbling Bursting, but will shine the spotlight a little more brightly on Andrews expressive guitar work.

Adding another feather to the cap, Kennedy has devoted considerable energy to the development of his own recording facility Broken Toy Productions. With several Brisbane artists already through the doors, Andrew is fast developing a reputation for pulling sweet sounds in the studio.

Keep an ear out for Brisbane artist Alan Boyles new EP Oxygen, recorded and produced at Broken Toy Productions by Andrew. Alan was a 2009 Qsong nominee was the winner of the 2009 Billy Thorpe Scholarship.

Background

Having been exposed to music at an early age through weekly piano lessons, music often seemed more of a chore than a passion. However, things changed in high school thanks to a left-of-centre piano teacher who encouraged Andrew to be creative and find his own musical style.

In 1997, Andrew commenced studies in Jazz at the Qld Conservatorium of Music. While this time helped Andrew to grow as a musician, the intense scruitiny left him feeling a bit like a square peg in a round hole.

In 1998, Andrew started an originals duo with fellow musician Mardi Lumsden called Pseudo Llama. The line-up grew to five members in 2001 and Pseudo Llama began gigging quite frequently in Brisbane. 2002 saw the band reach the semi-finals of the Qld Rock Awards, quite an achievement for an acoustic band.

2003 brought with it the recording and release of Pseudo Llamas EP Softly Spoken Lies to a sold out audience at The Healer in Brisbane.

Andrew released Shrugging it off in 2007 and Running Stumbling Bumbling Bursting in 2008.
